DescriptionThis picture of Eugene B. Sledge was taken sometime in the 1920s or early 1930s. It shows Sledge as a young boy. The caption reads "Eugene Bondurant Sledge, son of Dr. & Mrs. E.S. Sledge, Mobile, Ala. & nephew of Octonia S. Wyme, Selma, Ala." Sledge would grow up to fight with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific in World War II and later write a book about his combat experiences.
