Description
This image is a pencil conceptual drawing of four different types of arches done by J.L . Steffens sometime between 1917 and 1942 . The drawing is divided into four equal quadrants , each of which shows two arches in a particular style with their columns and architectural moldings . Below the columns on each drawing are shaded areas that show the shape and area of the columns . The upper left shows the rustic arch type , the upper right shows the Roman arch type , the lower left shows the Florentine arch type , and the lower right shows the Romanesque arch type . In the lower right corner are two labels which read : "School of Architecture , Architectural Renderings , RG 457 , Original Number 70 , 'Types of arches " (from Columbia Univ.) , J.L . Steffens " and "70. " In the lower left corner is a handwritten inscription which reads : "J.L . Steffens , 2nd Class ? Design , Columbia University. " The drawing is in fair condition with some discoloration in the lower left corner and is encapsulated .
