Canal Lock Station
Title
Canal Lock Station
Description
This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a canal lock done by Brendon A. Bond in 1940 . The painting shows the canal lock with its upper and lower gates , the area between the gates with steel walls containing a ship , two towers with a suspended emergency gate on the seaward side , steps from the lower level to the lock platform , gatehouses , and the main building with fences on either side of the lock and trees and cliffs beyond them. The lock empties into a sea with two ships . There are three different water levels shown : the lower canal level , the middle lock level , and the upper sea level . The painting shows the lock from an aerial three dimensional perspective beginning with the lower level canal in the lower right corner and running diagonally to the upper level sea in the upper left corner . There are two labels in the lower left corner that read : "School of Architecture Architectural Renderings , RG 457 , Original number 114 , 'Canal Lock Station ', 1940 , Brendon A. Bond " and "114. " In the lower right corner there is an artist's information block which reads : "Brendon A. Bond , Ala . Poly . Inst. , Class 'A', Sketch II , Canal Lock Station. " On the upper right there is a large handwritten inscription in red which reads : "1/2 Mention. " The painting is in good condition and is encapsulated .
