Spanish Patio
Title
Spanish Patio
Description
This image is a watercolor conceptual painting of a Spanish patio/courtyard done by Franklin Woodruff sometime between 1917 and 1942 . The upper half of the painting shows the courtyard building with its doors , decorative glass windows , porch with columns and arches , balcony and decorative iron hand railings and grilles over the windows , moldings , and tiled roof . There are lamps hanging from the porch , a blanket draped over the balcony railing , a fountain , vases , flowers , and trees . There is a woman on the balcony and a man standing in front of the porch . The lower half of the painting shows an aerial view of the courtyard and its decorative titles . The painting and aerial view are placed within framing art that includes close-ups of the glass windows , ironwork , columns , moldings , wood carvings , and tiles along with a tambourine , a candlestick with a candle , and a vase . In the lower right corner is an artist's information block but part of it is torn away and the rest is too faint to read except for the artist's name . Above the block is an Alabama Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture stamp with the handwritten inscription "2nd Medal " in red . The painting is in fair condition except for the large pieces missing from the edges and is encapsulated .
