Title	1929: Percy Beard, track star
Description	This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 2nd edition, 1996, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 132: Percy Beard of Greensboro, captain of the 1929 Auburn track team, later established world records in the 100-meter and 120-yard hurdles six times and won three outdoor and four indoor National AAU hurdles championships. He finished second in the 100-meter event at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles and probably would have won but hit the sixth hurdle while in the lead. Beard, coaches Wilbur Hutsell and Mel Rosen, and 1927 NCAA and AAU hurdles champion Weems Baskin were members of the National Track and Field Hall of Fame. Beard served as track coach at the University of Florida for many years. His brother was Jeff Beard, Auburn athletic director in 1951-72. Photo source: Auburn University Athletics Department.
