Description
This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn , a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms , 1st edition , 1981 , depicting the history of the city and the University . From page 165 : Soldiers lived in the Women's Quadrangle in 1943-44 , receiving instruction at Auburn under the Army Specialized Training Program . Naval trainees occupied Alumni Hall and called the dormitory a "ship " its floors "decks " and its walls "bulkheads. " They also "went ashore " and "reported aboard. " Displaced female students moved into fraternity houses , which had been largely emptied by World War II , and the remaining frat men found lodging elsewhere .
