1910: Covered bridge over Chewacla Creek
Title
1910 : Covered bridge over Chewacla Creek
Description
This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn , a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms , 3rd edition , 2013 , depicting the history of the city and the university . From page 75 : This was probably the second covered bridge built over Chewacla Creek , which flows in what became Chewacla State Park . The bridge was a good walk below the present Chewacla Lake dam . The first bridge had to be replaced because it was built too low and was damaged when flooded by heavy rains , according to history writer Peavy Wright . Chewacla Park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps--a Depression era government job-creating measure--in the late 1930s on land locally known as Wright's Mill . The park was dedicated in 1939 . Photo source : Auburn University Archives .
