Description
This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn , a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms , 1st edition , 1981 , depicting the history of the city and the university . From page 169 : Clyde B . Ellis became an Auburn policeman-fireman in 1937 for eighty dollars a month . He became police chief a few years later and after retiring in the early 1960s said , "In all my time , I never had to pull my pistol out of its holster.
