Description
This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn , a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms , 3rd edition , 2013 , depicting the history of the city and the university . From page 60 : Arms swinging , eyes on the finish line , six sprinters started the 100-yard dash in about 1894... . The Auburn Alumnus later said this was part of Auburn's first track meet , but Dean George Petrie said running events had been included in the first field day in 1889 . Football star "Dutch " Dorsey , second from right , won in 10.6 seconds , and Hinds Peevey finished second , the Auburn Alumnus recalled in 1932 , after reporting in 1930 that Peevey , fourth from left , won and Dorsey placed second... .
