This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn , a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms , 3rd edition , 2013 , depicting the history of the city and the university . From page 77 : Dean C . A. Cary , standing at left , posed in 1909 with seniors and juniors in the recently created School of Veterinary Medicine . The first class to receive D.V.M . degrees from a school in the Deep South included W . M . Howell , who practiced at Clio , and James E . Threadgill , who practiced at Enterprise . The 1910 class included F . P . Woolf , who later taught at Auburn ; B . H . Moon , a USDA veterinarian based in Alabama , Tennessee , and Iowa ; and B . T . Simms , director of the USDA Regional Animal Disease Lab at Auburn 1938-45 and then chief of the Bureau of Animal Industry in Washington , D.C .
