This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn , a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms , 3rd edition , 2013 , depicting the history of the city and the university . From page 72 : Mules and wagons awaited their turns at the cotton gin at the southwest corner of the Glenn-Main (now College) intersection early in the twentieth century . To the right , across Glenn , was a blacksmith shop . The old gin closed sometime before 1920 . It was replaced in the mid-twenties by a new gin on Opelika Road .
