Description	This image is a photograph used in the book Auburn, a Pictorial History of the Loveliest Village by Mickey Logue and Jack Simms, 3rd edition, 2013, depicting the history of the city and the University. From page 311: Dr. Bessie Mae Holloway, a Mobile County educator, was Auburn University's first African-American trustee. She was named by Governor George Wallace in 1985 to fill an unexpired term. She was reappointed to a full twelve-year term in 1987. Dr. Holloway is shown greeting Auburn graduates at commencement. She earned a doctorate in education from Auburn, a master's from Xavier University in Louisiana, and a bachelor's from Alabama State. Holloway became the second woman to serve on the Board of Trustees. The first, Sue Fincher, served in 1975-79. Photo source: Auburn University Black History.
