The hoof capsule is entirely epidermis; it is avascular and lacks nerves. The horny regions are frog horn (FH), sole horn (SH), epidermal laminae (LH), the proximal end of the wall in the coronary groove (WH) and periople. The wall is 25% water, the sole 33% water and the frog 50% water. The hoof grows about one quarter inch per month.
