William T . Presley Papers
Description
William T . Presley was born in South Carolina in 1835 . He was a resident of Robinson Springs , Autauga County , Alabama prior to the American Civil War and was listed as a farmer in the 1860 national census . He and his wife , Henryetta (maiden name may have been Ward) , had four children , named Augustus , George , Columbus and Antonette . In the fall of 1861 , he enlisted in a local cavalry unit which was later organized on November 12 , 1861 as Company A of the 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment . His war record was not evident in any of the correspondence or in the regimental history . He survived the war and relocated his family to Cherokee County , Georgia . Consists of three letters written by William T . Presley to his wife Henryetta from October of 1862 to June of 1863 . Includes information on the condition of Confederate hospitals in Atlanta , health conditions of friends and family in his regiment and others , and camp life while in Tullahoma and Middleton , Tennessee .
