Description
Asa T . Martin was a farm laborer from Bradford in Coosa County , Alabama . He served as a Confederate soldier in Company B of the Twelfth Alabama Regiment during the Civil War . Martin's regiment was stationed at Manassas Junction , Yorktown and Richmond , Virginia . He was wounded at the Battle of Fair Oaks (Seven Pines) on either May 31 or June 1 , 1862 and had an arm amputated . He died from his wounds in Richmond on June 26 , 1862 . Consists of letters written by Private Asa T . Martin to his wife Mary A.E . Martin from June of 1861 to May of 1862 . Includes letters written by Martin to R.A . Mizzles (probably Martin's brother-in-law and a soldier in Martin's regiment) and the Mizzles family ; letters from Mrs . Joseph S . McGrouder , a nurse at the Confederate hospital in Richmond , to Mrs . Martin informing her of her husband's death and other letters from relatives .
