Description	Whitby enlisted in Company D, 37th Alabama Infantry in 1862, serving with it until the end of the Civil War. Afterwards, he studied then practiced dentistry in the Alabama towns of Auburn, Wetumpka, and Selma. Collection includes transcripts of Whitby's Civil War letters, materials on 19th century dentistry in Alabama, and genealogical data on the Whitby family into the 1990s. Also includes 1 photograph of first reunion of Co. D, 37th Alabama, on August 4, 1906 at Binford's Springs, near Auburn, Ala. This group reputedly comprised the first Auburn baseball team, formed in 1866.
