Davis , a native of Hartford , Alabama , graduated from Auburn University . In 1937 , he founded the Lee County Bulletin , later the Auburn Bulletin , a liberal weekly newspaper published in Auburn , Alabama . He published the Auburn Bulletin until his retirement in 1975 . Four oral history interviews with Davis , conducted by Kathleen L . Moore while researching her master's thesis on Davis . He discusses his journalistic experience , but focuses on state and national politics .
