Description
Partin was born Sidnah McDonald Sherard in 1902 to parents William Crawford Sherard and Mae Roddy Sherard of Tennessee . She attended Maryville College in Maryville , Tennessee in the early 1920s . In 1930 she married Robert Partin . The couple settled in Auburn , Alabama in 1937 when her husband took a job as a professor at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) . She worked as a clerk for the War Department at Camp Opelika from 1943 to 1944 . She died in Auburn , Alabama in 1978 . This accession contains material about Camp Opelika , a Prisoner of War Camp in Opelika , Alabama , that operated during World War II . Sidnah S . Partin , who worked at the camp , acquired this material . Items include Partin's journal , official and unofficial correspondence , camp memorabilia , a book review and corresponding letter discussing the diary of a German soldier who did some work in Alabama , and a recording of Partin discussing her experience working at Camp Opelika on cassette tape and CD .
