First Line
Verse : In a forest glade sat an Indian maid ; Chorus : My forest flower , my red skin rose
Lyrics
VERSE 1 : In a forest glade Sat an Indian maid And her heart with love was filled , And a red skin brave Was her ardent slave And love songs to her he trilled , But she was the Big Chief's daughter And he knew he dared not court her Yet with her consent Outside her tent He'd sing this love lament . CHORUS : "My forest flower My red skin rose Each day and hour Love fonder grows In my heart's bower There's a spot so true My forest flower I love but you. " VERSE 2 : In an Indian camp Very cold and damp Waits a copper colored squaw , And as night draws night She is heard to sigh Blessings for her love at war ; Suddenly she hears him nearing And a voice rings through the clearing "For you I've slaved Each arrow braved And Big Chief's life I've saved!
