CHANTEY 1: Eight Bells VERSE 1: My husband's a saucy foretopman, A chum of the cook's, don't you know, He put his head down the cook's funnel, And shouted, "Come up from below." CHORUS: Eight bells! eight bells! Rouse out there the watch from below! Eight bells! eight bells! Rouse out there the watch from below! VERSE 2: My husband once shipped in a whaler, And sailed to the far northern seas, But being a boldhearted sailor, He cared not for ice, sea, nor breeze. VERSE 3: And now he's no longer a sailor, He often wakes up in the night, and thinking he's still on the whaler, Cries out with the greatest delight: CHANTEY 1: Away to Rio VERSE 1: Oh, the anchor is weighed and the sails they are set, Away, Rio! The maids that we're leaving, we'll never forget, For we're bound for Rio Grande! CHORUS: And away, Rio! Aye, Rio So fare ye well, my bonnie girl, We are bound for Rio Grande! VERSE 2: We've a jolly good ship and a jolly good crew, Away, Rio! A jolly good mate and a good skipper, too. For we're bound for Rio Grande! CHANTEY 3: Old Man Noah VERSE 1: Away, 'way back in the ages dark, Old man Noah built a sea-going ark. Old mand Noah had his nervous spells When he had to listen to the animals' yells, But when anything was doing, he was there with bells, He was a grand old sailor. CHORUS: Old man Noah knew a thing or two, He made 'em all play ball, Old man Noah knew a thing or two; Because he knew a thing or two, he thought he knew it all. Some say he was an "also ran", He was th' original sailor man, Old man Noah knew a thing or two, He was a grand old man. VERSE 2: Said old man Noah to his wife one day, There's a big storm coming on the first day of May. So he gathered all his family and made this remark, The sky is getting cloudy and it's getting rather dark, So gather all the animals and beat it to the ark, It's going to rain tomorrow. VERSE 3: The rain came down in showers prime, The ark lit out on schedule time, And ev'ry day at half past three, Noah played poker with the chimpanzee; Cried the ring-tailed monkey, I sadly grieve, Noah has a full house up his sleeve. VERSE 4: When Noah go the animals out to sea, They organized a regular jubilee, In the middle of the night the elephant said, There's a couple of snakes crawled into my bed! Shut up! said Noah, You're drunk instead, Now I'm going to lose my license. |
