Marion County Ala.
March the 25th 1863
Col. Jones, Dear Sir,
As I am ordered to report to you frequently, I now begin the first report from which you may learn something of my success. I have been riding about three days and have got twelve recruits and heard of several more that I will get to-day or to-morrow. I think my success will be pretty good for there is a great deal of Cavalry and conscripting officers in this part of the Country and the men want to volinteer rather than be conscripted Col. I think I will send Corpral Jinkins with a squad of men about the 12th or 15th of April I want them to start before the cavalry leaves for if they remain here till the cavalry is gone I fear some of them will not want to go any where. Col. Please send me all the infermation you can in regard to my duty and if you have any further orders send them
Yours Col. most obediently
Lt J. F. Holiman
