Opelika Ala June 26 1860
Dr Fannie
I got your letter of the 22nd to
day. We are all well how I gave you
the particulars of the attempt to burn us in my
last letter which I suppose you have not
received when you wrote yours. Margarett -
has been hired to Mr Kaufman ever since you
left at $4 pr month and will stay with
him I suppose until you return.
I also wrote you how you must start when
you come home. It will be best for you
to take the carr at Greenville at 4 Oclock
in the evening. If you start at Georgianna
or Belien you will be compelled to Lie over
in Greenville and Montgomery both un-less
a change of scedule has been made since I
came home. whereas if you start at Greenville
you can come straight-through on the -
mail train. You should have written in your
last exactly the time you would start home
over
[page 2]
that I might be at the train here if -
in the night-as it will be when you get
here Rains of late have been plentifull
and crops are pretty good. W[?] G Williams and
O P Jones have bought out Harris & Solomon (the
suspected jews) and they (the jews) have left
As to the time you shall start home I shall
not dictate to you - you can stay as long
as you can enjoy yourself there better than
you can here. Of course it is unpleasant
to live alone but if it gives pleasure to you
it can be borne by me for a time at least
I would not have you overpersuaded though
by your relatives there and would not have
the sentence above, taken as an argument by
them to keep longer than you yourself
think you ought to stay. I trust it to
the unbiased judgement of yourself
Yours truly
G.W. Cherry
