Description
Henry Hearst Kyser was a student at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama (now Auburn University) in the early 1890s . He was the oldest son of Samuel Dennis Kyser and Mary Powe Kyser and came from Talledega , Alabama . He received his B.S . degree in 1895 and his M.E . degree in 1896 . The following year he took a post graduate post and taught at Auburn until 1901 . From 1901 until 1903 he was an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Clemson College , South Carolina . Leaving there he took a post graduate course at the University of Wisconsin . Here the excellence of his work led to his being transferred to Chicago where he spent two years in special research . In 1808 he accepted a position as technical expert and high efficiency man with the Birmingham Railway , Light and Power Company , which culminated in his sad and tragic death . On the afternoon of May 8 , 1914 , he burned to death trying to escape the company's office building . Male students at Auburn were called cadets and participated in military training in addition to their studies . They were required to wear gray military uniforms .
