Description | This document is a list of books, written by James Asbury Tait. Presumably, these are books owned by the Tait family and kept in the Tait family home. The list was written on the back pages of a notebook whose main entries were a detailed list of female slaves and their descendents. It was probably written during or later than 1844. The books listed include works of agriculture, science, law, history, literature, classics, and religion. There are also a number of reference works including dictionaries and atlases. The Tait family were plantation owners in Wilcox County, Alabama; active in politics in Georgia, Alabama, and Texas. This item has been aggregated as part of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL)'s "Deeply Rooted: The Agricultural & Rural History of the American South" project. |
