[page 1] Miss Jasper conty May 6 1861 Dear friend I now take my pin to pin you that I am well at this time friend yours came to hand May the 2 and I was sorprise to here that you was at Fort morgan you may look for mea there or som where els I belon[g] to Capt ton [tom?] Shannon croud [crowd] I stay at the sity of paulding I have bin ther[e t]wice or more we are a looking [for] the word march now ever our I think that we will Start this week if we do we will go to Washington I am ready to go there are one hundred in the compiny at paulding you rote for al the nuse bob I have none worth telling well this leaves the famely well at this time and all so all of my friends you said rite to you what LS [TS?] Smith was doing he is yet at home tom is going [hand written] to school yet Pink to but by goley i am going [typed] to fit if the rest goes and I think there will go it like to killed mea ded to leave home but I think that I [can] stand it now iam not took __rib[?] yet nor went soon bob turn bill ___[?]___ says he will be damed if [go]es un- tell he is draf ted Tim to bob the negros tried to wrise here last week there did whip them shure the are talk ing of hanging some of them I think that the will hang Sept will um [William] is march the give some of them one thosen whipt them at the holder church you rote that there was abad plase to git it you know what bob you had [better?] took one in your pock it __ bob if I can git on for afair prise you never said whare to send my letter I will rite to Fort morgan wright soon. R.T. if you git my letter our flag does look nise shore so give all the boyes my best respeck but bea Shore to save adew potson [portion] for yourself and I will the same by you bob excuse bad spelling and wrigh ting that you must do R T John E.
