[page 1] September the 29, 1863 Dear wife i take the pleasure to rite to you to let you no that i have got to go to the army and i want you to do the best you can while i am gone we are going to leave her on monday and are going to pittsburgh when we get there i will rite so that you can rite to me i am going to send tenn dollars in this letter to give to carason and i am going to send my close to gates [manross ?] and you can get them any tome and i am going to Send my likeness with my clothes [page 2] you need not rite to me till i rite again So no more at present but re- mains yours truly from Fred to Lovina fogle the likeness in the locket is mother
