[page 1] Camp Ferry New Haven Oct 9, 1862 Dear Wife I received your letter and the dollar you sent me and I thank you for it I sho- uld like to sit down to the table with you and ch- ildren and eat some of tha- t quince sauce that is so nice but can not and perhaps ne- ver shall Wee have received m- arching orders but don’t know how soon wee shall start I hope not right away the coat you spoke about I get along very well without because I ha- ve got all my rig and I shou- ld like to have you seem ewith it on would you thi- nk I looked like your husband but enough of this I have not bin off the ground since I was home so I have not sen Ad line but i am going the [page 2] first plessent day I hope you are well and enjoying oying your self and when you are i am in good spirits I spose you think of me some ti- mes in my Camp home I d- ow of you allmost evry hour I hope you will come and see me before I leeve the ground if you can conveneiantly when I got the stove I told Mrs. Osborn to send you those papers she sed I must see Mr Osborn about it but he was not in the store so you must [illegible] right him about them and come and see me next week if you can give my love to youe mother and take the largest share yourself this from your Loveing Hus- band Joseph E. Evarts.
