[page 1] Camp Scott York, Pa May 6/61 Friend Mattie, I suppose you have come to the conclusion that I had forgotten my promise to write to you but the truth is I have been sick part of the time & the other on duty. The boys are all well and enjoy themselves first take We get plenty of bread beef coffee sugar & juce every day we are all messed in messes of 6. Will Stevenson is in my mess he is well and looks hearty. The weather is very unpleasant raining all the time on Friday night one of the Regiments was flooded out and had to leave the camp. The Rules are very strict we can not leave the camp without an order from our [page 2] our General. Roll is called every morning at 5 oclock & at 8 oclock Reveille is sounded & Roll called we go to bed. This camp is the fair Ground of this town we are drilling six times a day we go on watch in alphabetical order I have yet only been on one night. Several of our boys are sick Tim Christy is one he fainted in the ranks with cold the other morning. Give my love to your Uncle and tell him to write also my love to your mother hoping if I ever get back I will have the pleasure of shaking hands with you.
